THE DOCTOR IS IN… By Dr. John J. Pierce, DO acoep, abaarm Stop trying to be so perfect, and just be happy. Are you a huge perfectionist? Do you set unrealistic expectations for those around you and/or yourself? You might actually be standing in the way of your own happiness. Of course, rationally we all know there isn’t any such thing as a perfect person. When people struggle for perfection, they have a higher risk of postpartum depression, anxiety disorders, and low self-esteem. If you are trying to navigate a road to wellness, then your first stop on the journey to a happier, healthier you should be to dump that desire for perfection. It will free you to be that more carefree self you crave. Regular exercise is something you should add to your daily schedule. It doesn’t have to be what the boys are doing in the UFC gym, however. Start small: daily walks are an excellent way to reflect and de-stress. Making a small amount of your day for yourself is important. Taking adequate “me time” is essential and don’t even start feeling guilty about it. Don’t set goals for yourself that are unattainable. If your goal is to lose a little weight, then make small goals like losing one pound a week. It’s also important that you learn to say no. We often let others shape what we do by bending to their expectations and overloading our calendars. You must harness and find the power to say no to things that will crowd your time and create more stress for yourself. Then do your best to eliminate the negative in your life. If someone has wronged, you in the past learn to practice forgiveness and don’t let their missteps in the past influence the outcome of your future. Learn to meditate, and in your meditations forgive the people and don’t let them have any power over your present. Remember that part at the end of A Nightmare On Elm Street where the girl finally learns how to defeat Freddy? Once she learned that by declaring he had no power over her suddenly that creepy guy could no longer hurt her (until the sequel of course). It’s just a movie, but is still a good metaphor on how to live your life. Don’t give anyone, anything, or any challenge too much weight or it can have the opposite effect on your life. Don’t worry too much and find your happiness one small, easy step at a time. Dr. John J. Pierce, D.O. • Ageless Forever Anti-Aging and Longevity Clinic is located at 6020 S. Rainbow Blvd. Suite C Las Vegas, NV 89118 • 702-838-1994 • Have Another Cup of Joe A study recently published by the University of Texas suggest that men who drink two to three cups of coffee a day are 42% less likely to have erectile dysfunction. The scientists found that the stimulant caffeine triggers a series of reactions in the body and increases blood flow to the penis, keeping E.D. at bay. Pesto for your Penis Pine nuts, one of the main ingredients in the pesto, are very rich in zinc. Men with higher levels of zinc in their system have been shown to have better sex drives than those with lower levels. Pine nuts are also a great source of magnesium, which naturally boosts testosterone, and helps to keep sperm healthy and viable. A Lemon a Day Keeps the Doctor Away Squeezing half of a lemon into a glass of water coupled with walking about 7,000 a day could reduce your high-blood pressure according to a recent study. And that little yellow citrus fruit packs a powerful dose of vitamin C. One lemon is half your daily recommended amount of vitamin C, and high levels of the nutrient are associated with reducing the likelihood of wrinkles. Lemons are also rich in polyphenols, which have naturally occurring antioxidants. Studies have shown a link between these polyphenols and a suppression of fat accumulation and weight gain. They have also been known to help improve levels of blood sugar, leptin, and insulin. Another reason to lemon up your routine is that the acid in lemon juice helps to neutralize odors, so you can combat stinky breath from foods like garlic and onions. Increasing the amount of citrate in your diet has also been found to naturally prevent the formation of kidney stones. There is one warning before loading up on too much of the juice: it can be very tough on your tooth enamel so don’t go too overboard when incorporating it into your diet.
