THE DOCTOR IS IN… by dr. John j. pierce, do, acoep, abaarm In a post-industrial revolution nation, our bodies are constantly being exposed to chemicals that are not influencing our health in a positive way. There are currently 85,000 chemicals registered with the U.S. Government, and over 1,000 new ones are being added every year. A study conducted by the Center for Disease Control found that after studying 2,400 people, 212 had chemicals in their blood and urine samples— 75 of which had never been found in the United States before. They found traces of arsenic and other harmful chemicals in their samples. It sounds scary, but there are ways that we can counteract what is in our environment and maintain our health. We all know that eating right and exercising are key components to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. But exposure to toxins can result in increased fatigue, stubborn weight gain, muscle aches, skin reactions, bad breath and constipation. Solutions to these problems aren’t as daunting as one might think. Support your liver with things like milk thistle, parsley and cilantro. Start enjoying some tasty, yet gut balancing foods, like kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir and other probiotic-rich foods. Commit to exercising at least 30 minutes per day; it has been scientifically proven that exercising not only helps to remove toxins, but it also clears the mind and improves your mood. Whenever possible, try to eat whole organic foods, and do your best to avoid fast food stops. Try doing some meditative deep breaths each day; you can eliminate a lot of unwanted chemicals in your lungs. Drink more water and when brushing your teeth don’t forget to brush your tongue, and follow up with a natural mouth rinse. These tips are just a few suggestions our office has to combat chemical exposure. To get a more detailed analysis of why you might not be feeling yourself, I highly suggest you meet with a medical concierge like myself. We can then draw blood, look at the results, and come up with a nutritional plan, supplement prescription, and a training schedule that will make you feel years younger. Dr. John J.
