Angry Drivers and Road Rage “Road rage, in one form or another, affects every driver in every state—and, in today’s social media age, filled with photos and videos and hashtags. We wanted to gather insights from the social sphere that we could present to drivers and communities,” said Laura Adams, senior insurance analyst at insuranceQuotes. The analysis—which measured the number of Instagram posts in each state with hashtag #RoadRage from 2013 to 2016—found that the top five states with the most aggravated drivers are: 1.) Hawaii (*5,872 posts) 2.) California (*3,506 posts) 3.) New York (*2,200 posts) 4.) New Jersey (*2,129 posts) 5.) Nevada (*2,004 posts) “While it may be surprising for some to see Hawaii top the list, the state is notorious for its heavy traffic—and its roads filled with unfamiliar tourists—which can lead to altercations and accidents,” said Adams. August was the most aggravating month for drivers, with an average of 7,136 #RoadRage posts from 2013 to 2016—and July was the second most aggravating month. Also, results showed that road rage peaks on Friday. Comparatively, Sunday is the calmest day on the roads. Similarly, motorists’ rage appears to increase throughout the day, peaking at the 6 p.m. hour. *Posts Per 100,000 drivers. Data provided by
